Before and after cabinet refinish.

It’s pretty amazing how big of an impact you can have with a little paint! This kitchen used our kitchenCRATE Refinish product where we only update the cabinets by either painting or staining the existing or add new door and drawer faces. In this particular project, there were a few minor add-ons, like adding extra molding above the cabinets, but for the most part we came in and refinished the cabinets in the kitchen, hallway and laundry room. We also did a slight modification to the fireplace so the mantle would match the rest of the house. For those that want a big transformation without having to buy new countertops, our Refinished project is your ticket!

But don’t just take our word on how well this job turned out.  Look below for the extensive before and after pictures and the project specifications!

Day by Day Kitchen Renovation Process

Day 1 –  The CRATE team set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust and paint overspray and protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen. The appliances were removed along with everything attached to the cabinet boxes such as the cabinet doors, drawers, hinges, pulls, magnetic strikes, felt or rubber bumper pads, etc. The doors and drawers were taken to an off-site painting booth.

Day 2 – The team began installing new crown molding at the top of the cabinets and modify several cabinets with pull out drawers.

Days 3 & 4– Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets.  Prepping includes caulking, setting protruding or flush nails, filling nail holes, sanding wood surfaces, and cleaning thoroughly to remove dust or oils. Once the cabinets were prepped, the priming process began. Using a high-grade primer, every inch of the cabinets were primed.  This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.

Day 5 – Now that the cabinets were clean, sanded, and beautifully-primed, the painters began the cabinet painting process.  Two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Swiss Coffee were applied to the thoroughly sanded and primed kitchen cabinets. This same priming and cabinet painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.

Day 6 – The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers. The 3″ Satin Nickel Bar pulls were installed on the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers, the homeowner’s appliances were installed and the entire project was cleaned.
