Day by Day Remodeling Progress

(Note: We added an extra 3 days to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons, like these.)

Here’s how we did it:

Day 1 – Demo Day!  On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper, and then went to town removing the appliances, countertops, backsplash, plumbing fixtures and cabinet doors and drawers. We also reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps to support the new granite counters. Toward the end of the day we created the template for the new granite countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.

Day 2 – The electrical team began the wiring for the new LED recessed lighting. Five six-inch LED can lights were placed strategically around the kitchen to optimize the lighting over work spaces.

Day 3 –  The sheetrock at the countertop was repaired and made ready for the new tile backsplash along with the sheetrock at the ceiling, where the lightbox was removed.

Days 4, 5 & 6 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, the painters began the process of striping the cabinet boxes to prepare them for the new stain. Once the cabinets boxes were stripped of their original finish, the cabinet boxes were stained with a beautiful Old Masters Dark Mahogany stain.  This process entails a spray application of the stain, followed by a clear coating for the utmost durability. This same process was used on the doors and drawers, which are stained off-site in a climate-controlled booth for the highest possible quality.

Day 7 – The countertop installation team arrived to install the beautiful Blanco Diamond Double Bowl sink in Biscotti and the Arizona Tile Mokono Brown granite countertops with a beveled edge detail.

Day 8 – The tile backsplash artisans were on site to install the Arizona Tile Regis Beige 2″ x 8″ porcelain tiles on the backsplash with an accent of Arizona Tile Mineral Copper squares at the cooktop. The backsplash was grouted using Laticrete Latte grout.

Days 9 & 10 –  Lastly, the kitchenCRATE team installed the homeowner’s appliances.  The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-stained cabinet doors and drawers. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the Kohler Bellera faucet with an oil-rubbed bronze finish was installed and the entire project was cleaned of all construction debris.
