The Homeowner’s Experience with bathCRATE

What was your favorite part of the bathCRATE process?

Just like with our kitchenCRATE process, we were extremely pleased with the crew and how they honored the timeline.

What was your favorite part about the bathCRATE team?

Once again, we loved meeting with our designer. She was a great fit for us when she helped design the kitchen and we quickly requested her help with the bathroom. Additionally, we were pleased with the professionalism of the crew and how they listened and attended to our needs as the clients.

Was there anything about the process or project that surprised yours? If so, what was it?

Since we were already familiar with the process, our expectations were met. KitchenCRATE set the bar high with their first project at our house and the team at bathCRATE easily met with the high standard they had set.

Bathroom Remodel Timeline

Here’s how we did it:

Day 1 – Demo Day!  On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the bathroom with building paper, and then went to town removing the countertops, backsplash, vanity doors and drawers, shower tile and flooring.  Toward the end of the day, we created the template for the new quartz countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site. The new shower valve was also installed and the electrical team began the wiring for the new LED recessed lighting at the shower.

Day 2 –  The bathCRATE team was back on site to patch and repair the sheetrock.

Day 3 – All of the walls and ceiling in the master bathroom and bedroom were painted. Kelly-Moore Gallery Gray with a satin finish was applied to the walls and the ceiling was painted to match the existing ceiling color.

Days 4 & 5 –  The tile artisans were on site to install tile at the shower. Bedrosians Matrix Azul 12″ x 24″ porcelain tiles were installed on the shower walls with an accent strip of Bedrosians Tessuto Silver stacked mosaic tiles and Bedrosians Hemisphere Fatima Cream sliced pebble tiles were installed on the shower floor. The shower was grouted using Laticrete Sterling Silver grout.

Day 6 – The painters began preparing and priming the cabinets.  Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the bathroom vanity cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed.  This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish. The painters then applied two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Balsamic Reduction to the thoroughly sanded and primed vanity cabinets.  This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.

Days 7 & 8 – The tile artisans were back on site to install the Bedrosians Prestige Walnut 6″ x 24″ porcelain floor tiles. The flooring was grouted using Laticrete Espresso grout.

Day 9 –  The countertop installation team arrived to install the Kohler Caxton sinks in white and the Silestone Lyra quartz countertop with a mitered edge.

Days 10 & 11 – The transformation hit the homestretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers, the Pfister Pasadena widespread faucets and shower fixture in Satin Nickel, the new Kohler Cimmaron toilet, mirrors, light fixtures, accessories, and the semi-frameless shower door. After the final items were installed the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
